Course Structure

The programme runs across two terms with a holiday break in June, giving you time to consolidate your learning before advancing.

What You Will Learn

Arabic Foundations & Pronunciation

• The Arabic alphabet and correct pronunciation

• Short and long vowels, Sukoon, Shaddah, and Tanween

• How Arabic letters change when joined

• Building, spelling, and reading Arabic words accurately

• Sun and Moon letters

Essential Grammar

• The three types of Arabic words: nouns, verbs, and particles

• Masculine and feminine forms

• Singular, dual and plural nouns

• Definite and indefinite nouns

• Detached and attached pronouns

• Demonstrative pronouns and question words

• Prepositions, conjunctions and the vocative form

• Subject, object and genitive cases

Verbs & Sentence Structure

• Past, present and command verbs

• Nominal and verbal sentences

• How Arabic sentences are formed and analyzed

• Applying grammar rules when reading Quranic verses

Quranic Arabic & Vocabulary

• Frequently used nouns, verbs and particles in the Quran

• Approximately 300 common Quranic words

• Names of Surahs and their meanings

• How to analyze an Ayah through vocabulary and grammar

• The historical and cultural background of Quranic Arabic

• How to understand Quranic passages with less dependence on translations

Practical Arabic Skills

• Typing in Arabic and using an Arabic keyboard

• Searching for reliable Quranic and Arabic resources online

• Introduction to the history of Arabic and Arab culture
